The Ville de Montréal announces that it is holding a competition for the design and production of a work of digital art that will be installed on Rue Émery, facing the Cinéplex Odéon Quartier Latin.
The commission consists of designing a digital installation articulated into two components (recto-verso) and with light as the main material. Linked to the movie theatre, the chosen artwork will offer content that will be modified over time as a function of a scenario defined by the artist. The components of the work will be placed or embodied in two vertically oriented rectangular structures resting on bases.
The artwork will complement the redevelopment of the street to be completed in the fall of 2016, and will strengthen its cultural dimension and identity. Installation of the artwork is planned for the summer of 2017.
The production budget for the artwork is $190,000 (not including taxes). Selection will take place in two steps. A selection jury will choose three finalists, who will be asked to submit a proposal. Each finalist will receive $4,500 to prepare his or her proposal. Then, the jury will recommend a winner.
The competition is open to professional artists with Canadian citizen ship or landed immigrant status and who have resided in Quebec for at least one year.
