The Ville de Montréal announces the holding of a competition for the design and production of a work of public art for Le Parterre. A gateway to the Quartier des spectacles, the square, inaugurated in 2010, hosts large-scale festivals, as well as other occasional events, in Montréal.
The commission consists of designing a sculpture or installation that will occupy the raised granite platforms, preferably in the form of a triptych. As point of reference for the Quartier des spectacles, the artwork must establish a three-dimensional focal point in both space and time.
The installation of the artwork is planned for September 2017.
The production budget for the artwork is $550,000, before taxes. The selection process will take place in two steps. A jury will choose three finalists, who will be asked to submit a proposal. Each finalist will receive $7,500 for preparation of his or her proposal. Then, the jury will recommend the selection of a winner.
The competition is intended for professional artists with Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status who have been residing in Québec for at least one year.
