Frederic Laforge won the public art competition for the Complexe aquatique de Pierrefonds-Roxboro

The artist Frédéric Laforge has won the competition for production of a two-part public artwork at the Complexe aquatique de Pierrefonds-Roxboro.

The artwork will be integrated into the construction project for the Complexe aquatique de Pierrefonds-Roxboro. In compliance with the Québec government’s Politique d’intégration des arts à l’architecture et à l’environnement des bâtiments et des sites gouvernementaux et publics, the centre must include an artwork designed specifically for the site.

The artwork will be installed outside the front of the building, where the two main entrances, giving onto Pierrefonds Boulevard, will be located. The intention is to create cultural reference points that encourage strolling and discovery and to energize the cultural pathway of this sector, which is defined as the core of the borough’s identity.

Installed at two sites near the main entrances to the building, the sculptural installation titled Tous les corps ont quelque chose à dire features figures of different body types in different positions. With a focus on encounter and water, Laforge’s proposal reflects the diversity of residents and the variety of recreational and community activities taking place at the Complexe aquatique de Pierrefonds-Roxboro.

The work will be unveiled in spring 2026. It is Laforge’s first work to be integrated into the public art collection.

Frédéric Laforge lives and works in Montréal. In 2016, he completed a PhD in art studies and practices at the Université du Québec à Montréal. His work has been shown in Canada and abroad at solo and group exhibitions. He has received numerous research grants and has produced various public art projects in Canada. His works are in private and institutional collections, including that of the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec. In his practice, he is interested in issues of diversity and identity.
