Lorraine Fontaine
Delos, septième porte de la perfection et de l'immortalité, Convoi III
2006
Presentation of the artwork
The sculpture is situated in the south part of Parc Baldwin, near Rue Sherbrooke. Taking the form of a symbolic staircase, it establishes links among myth, nature, and culture. In this artwork, as a place of transition, the artist creates a paradox between life and death. The updated version of the myth questions the desire to attain perfection and immortality. Made of Corten steel, the artwork is taking on a rust-coloured patina, creating an aesthetic associated with nature. The monolithic sculpture is the third work in a trilogy also composed of the installation Ô Narcisse, ma sœur… and La chambre d'Écho.
Associated events
The artwork was donated by the artist to the Plateau-Mont-Royal Borough in 2009. In 2011, it was permanently installed in Parc Baldwin.
