Dramaturgie d’une intersection is a sculptural installation with lights that draws on the history and imagination of the Bordeaux-Cartierville district to create a poetic experience in the heart of the public space. Spanning two sites at the corner of Boulevard Keller and Boulevard Laurentien, the work is composed of geometric forms inspired by Art Deco and figurative elements drawn from the neighbourhood’s emblematic stories.

Bouvier took inspiration from the former Belmont Park and the tramline that once linked downtown Montréal to Cartierville. A monkey, a child, a house, and a streetcar take centre stage in a setting that blends memory and reverie. These figures evoke not only the neighbourhood’s past but its future, marked today by the arrival of the REM and urban transformations.

By day, the colourful structures draw the eye with their vertical lines and architectural forms. When night falls, light sources highlight the work, which now seems to emerge from a dream world and invites passersby to make up their own stories.

With this dialogue between heritage and imagination, Dramaturgie d’une intersection transforms a place that people pass through into a space of discovery and collective appropriation.

In 2024, the Bureau d’art public and the Ahuntsic-Cartierville borough launched a competition by invitation for incorporation of an artwork into the plan to redevelop Boulevard Laurentien and Rue Lachapelle. The project is part of the integrated urban revitalization effort that has been ongoing in the Laurentien-Grenet district since 2017. A citizen consultation process allowed residents to examine and express their opinions about the finalists’ proposals. This project is being produced with financial support from the Gouvernement du Québec and the Ville de Montréal in the context of the Montréal Cultural Development Agreement.
