Suzelle Levasseur
Le passage ? Regarder, entendre, échanger et faire le Sud-Ouest
2007
Presentation of the artwork
The work is installed in the Accès Montréal office, in the main entrance of the Sud-Ouest Borough city hall; it was created to give a soul to this multifunctional site that is an area for transit, reception, encounter, and work.Formed of seven tondi, the artwork counts on the capacity of colour to bring in light and create space. Each tondo acts as a painting, a window piercing the wall. The three largest tondi portray some of the most attractive buildings in the Sud-Ouest Borough: the city hall, in red; the Turcot Exchange, in yellow; and the Lachine Canal, in blue. The smaller paintings refer to sensory receptors and evoke the gaze of those who took part in building these structures; they invite visitors to explore, to learn about their environment, and to imagine themselves in these locations.
Associated events
The project was created in the context of the L’art public dans les arrondissements de Montréal initiative launched as part of implementation of the City of Montreal’s Cultural Development Policy, with the goal of encouraging greater accessibility to arts and culture.
