Ludovic Boney

Nouvelle séquence

2023
Presentation of the artwork
Situated in the gardens of the Robert and Bélanger families’ farmhouse, Nouvelle séquence is composed of coffers that seem to emerge from the ground, rise, and then turn to return to earth. The ensemble is gradually extends, in both volume and colour, in the space. With this sculptural gesture, Ludovic Boney evokes both the site’s evolution and its permanence: he conveys the current cultural and educational vocation of Maison Robert-Bélanger as well as the agricultural and rural past of the heritage site. By the rhythmic organization of its forms, the artwork reminds us of the past and the future.

Playful and mysterious, Nouvelle séquence invites us to find connections between the history of the site and its contemporary craftmanship, thus opening perspectives in our imagination.
Associated events
In May 2022, the Public Art Bureau held a competition by invitation for professional visual artists for the design and production of an artwork for integration with the site of Maison Robert-Bélanger. This work falls within the context of rehabilitation and restoration of Maison Robert-Bélanger in the Saint-Laurent borough. In compliance with the Gouvernement du Québec’s Politique d’intégration des arts à l’architecture et à l’environnement des bâtiments et des sites gouvernementaux et publics, the renovated and restored house was required to integrate an artwork designed specifically for it.
Ludovic Boney
Ludovic Boney, born in Wendake, is known for his bold artistic propositions. His most recent works of public art are found at the Musée national des beaux-arts du Québec, the École de technologie supérieure, and the Musée de la civilisation.

Although Boney is known province-wide, this is his first work to enter the municipal public-art collection.
