Robin Bell
The Goalie
1985
Presentation of the artwork
The Goalie portrays goaltender Ken Dryden in his signature position in front of the net: his chin resting on his crossed arms leaning on the top of his stick. Before beginning to create the artwork, the artist Robin Bell organized a photo session with the celebrated hockey player, then he borrowed his equipment to study it in detail in his studio. Once the clay model of the statue was completed, it was cast in bronze at the Fonderia Artistica Mariani in Pietrasanta, with which Bell has collaborated for most of his art projects.
The life-size sculpture pays tribute to the hockey legend.

In 2021, Ivanhoé Cambridge donated The Goalie to the Ville de Montréal’s Collection municipale d’art public. The bronze statue is returning to its original site in the borough of Saint-Laurent.
