Rose-Marie Goulet

Volatiles

1996
Presentation of the artwork
The artwork is composed of seven sculptural elements suspended over the Aquadôme’s recreational pool. Letters cut out of aluminum sheets form the elements, each in a different colour: red, magenta, yellow, blue, green, purple, and pink. The elements refer schematically to aquatic fauna and flora. In particular, the silhouettes of a turtle and a heron can be seen.

Rose-Marie Goulet’s artworks have much to do with writing, words, and the dynamic between the positive and negative spaces of each letter. This formal work on signs is emphasized in this playful work in which the aquatic and the airborne are intermingled.
Associated events
The work was produced under the Québec government’s Politique d’intégration des arts à l’architecture et à l’environnement des bâtiments et des sites gouvernementaux et publics.
Rose-Marie Goulet
Rose-Marie Goulet has produced numerous works of public art in Québec. Educated at the Université du Québec à Montréal (bachelor’s degree), Concordia University (master’s degree), and the École nationale supérieure du paysage de Versailles (internship), she focuses her art practice on the visual aspect of words so as to distance them from their linguistic meaning and transform the space in which they are found. Among her important artworks are Monument pour A at the Centre des congrès de Québec and Effets publics at Concordia University, a group project of integration of art with architecture.
