Lucie Duval

Mots choisis

2006
Presentation of the artwork
In front of a large window, in a reading area in the corner of the adults’ section of Bibliothèque de Pointe-aux-Trembles, Lucie Duval’s artwork Mots choisis sits on a white cube. Inspired by the theme of the book, it is composed of superimposed pieces of Plexiglas on which different texts are engraved. A frame and a wooden base complete the artwork.

The changing light from the window near the work reveals its multiple strata. Indeed, the words are revealed differently depending on the time of day and the viewer’s position in the space. Language and space are intermingled, as they are in many of Duval’s artworks.
Associated events
The artwork was produced on the occasion of a competition to underline the designation of Montréal as a world capital of the book in 2005–06. Whereas the winning proposition, Liber by Lisette Lemieux, was donated to UNESCO, two other propositions, Mots choisis by Lucie Duval and Les jours d’été quand le fleuve monte à l’assaut des murs by Marie-France Brière, were permanently installed in Montréal libraries.
